The Labour Party Democracy Review was undertaken between 2017 and 2018 Labour Conferences, led by Katy Clark – Political Secretary to Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn and former Labour MP for North Ayrshire and Arran from 2005 – 2015. Labour National Executive Committee (NEC) Chair Andy Kerr and NEC member Cllr Claudia Webbe assisted Katy with the Review.
The Democracy Review Report was submitted to the NEC (the Party’s ruling body when Party Conference is not in session), as a result of which the NEC proposed amendments to the Party’s rule book, which were adopted at 2018 Labour Conference.
The impact of the Democracy Review will be felt in all Labour branches and CLPs. Brighton Pavilion CLP decides amendments to its constitution every year at its AGM, currently held in early December annually. You can watch our 2018 constitutional changes playlist for more information.
Comments were submitted at all three stages of the Democracy Review by Pavilion Labour, its branches and forums.
On 10 February 2018 Katy and Claudia visited Brighton to hear feedback on stage two of the Democracy Review process from Labour members in Brighton and Hove. On 6 January 2018 Claudia Webbe attended Pavilion Labour’s discussion forum to introduce the Democracy Review process and procedures. Claudia represents Constituency Labour Parties (CLPs) on Labour’s ruling NEC and is a councillor in Islington, with responsibility for transport and the environment.
