Our Councillors

Following the results of the 2023 local elections, there were 38 Labour councillors representing different wards on Brighton and Hove City Council.  In Brighton Pavilion constituency we are delighted to have achieved the election of many more Labour councillors based on our 2023 Labour manifesto.

Pavilion wards

Eight Labour councillors were elected in May 2023 wards wholly inside Brighton Pavilion constituency.   Three Labour councillors were elected in Hanover & Elm Grove ward – see hereTy Galvin, Tim Rowkins and Maureen Winder, plus three Labour councillors in Hollingdean & Fiveways ward – see here – where Cllr Theresa Fowler was re-elected and joined by Bruno De Oliveira and Mohammed Asaduzzaman, one Labour councillor in Preston Park ward – see hereLiz Loughran, and on Labour councillor in Regency ward – see hereAlison Thomson.

Split wards

The 2023 local government boundary changes have introduced three “split” wards effecting Brighton Pavilion.  This is where a local government ward covers more than one parliamentary constituency – so is split (or shared) between parliamentary constituencies.  The three wards partly in Brighton Pavilion where this is the case are:

  • Coldean & Stanmer ward – split between Brighton Pavilion and Brighton Kemptown constituencies – see here.  Coldean & Stanmer ward elected two Labour councillors in May 2023 – see hereMitchie Alexander and Tobias Sheard.
  • Moulsecoomb & Bevendean ward – split between Brighton Pavilion and Brighton Kemptown constituencies – see here.  Moulsecoomb & Bevendean ward elected three Labour councillors in May 2023 – see hereAmanda Evans, Ty Goddard and Jacob Taylor.
  • Westdene & Hove Park ward – split between Brighton Pavilion and Hove constituencies – see here.  Westdene & Hove Park ward elected three Conservative councillors in May 2023 – see here.

Don’t lose your vote!

Currently Brighton & Hove elects its full council all together once every four years.  While by-elections can occur at any time, as full elections were held on 4 May 2023, the next full council elections are not due to be held until May 2027.  To vote in any elections – local or national, please ensure that you register to vote and have the correct photo ID (required from May 2023 on) if you are voting in-person.  You can only avoid the need for photo ID by opting for a postal vote.
