Withdean Labour

As a result of the 2022 Boundary Review, Withdean Branch is changing into the new Preston Park Branch during 2023.  In time this page will be removed to fully reflect this but, while much of Withdean adjusts to its demise, we’re keeping this page up and suggesting that members will be better covered by the new Preston Park branch page.

We’re busy campaigning to improve upon the disappointing May 2019 election results in Withdean .  With our great 2023 Pavilion Labour candidates for (new) Preston Park ward – Liz Loughran, Theresa Mackey and David Messent – and our fantastic 2023 Labour manifesto.

The old Withdean ward previously included Withdean, Westdene, Varndean, Surrenden and Preston Village, covering the area from Preston Drove to The Deneway and up to the edge of the Downs, and from Dyke Road to Ditchling Road.  These boundaries have now changed, with Westdene being taken into Hove Park ward (in Hove!) and Stanford and Prestonville added to form the new Preston Park branch.

Withdean Labour members have always been active campaigners locally, running local leafleting and campaigning sessions around our neighbourhood and the Pavilion Labour campaign stall on the London Road.  We also enjoy occasional other events including outings to a local pub quiz, where volunteers are always welcome!  New branch boundaries and a different name are unlikely to change this.

Withdean Labour Party campaigning on local and national issues, included Save Preston Park Cycle Track, the People’s Post and Action For Rail, as well as having many members actively involved with local education and NHS campaigns.   We remain committed supporters of rail public ownership and call for proper investment in our station infrastructure, so obviously needed at Preston Park station.  We oppose the sale of any rights over public sports facilities or school fields.
